The issue I cited is years old and may no longer be an issue, so you should really do your own research for the most current information and best advice, preferably from someone who knows more than I do. Having said that:
Check your add-on version first (Settings->Add-ons->My add-Ons->All). There's no point in proceeding along this path if you already have the right version installed.
As far as down-/side-grading is concerned, you'd want to uninstall your current version (click into it from the screen above and look for Uninstall), then download and "Install From Zip" the version at https://github.com/opensubtitles/service...nsubtitles:
