Native 4k and Pass-through Audio Not Working Xbox One S at 19.4
#16
Turn on your TV/amplifier before turning on the XSX console. or the 7.1/DTS X possible not working and the option for KODI regarding AUDIO passthrough will not work properly.

You can confirm this abnormal via setting of XSX console (Volume & audio output / Audio testing & details)

I do have my Xbox power on my TV and Receiver and had suspected that may be causing handshake capability problems.  I fiddled with those settings as well prior to writing up this post.

I do have "Adjust display refresh rate" set to start/stop, but that is as it should be (you want the content to be playing at the proper rate if possible, right?) and shouldn't cause a problem, should it? Sync playback to display is off and yes, I know that will disable passthrough.

I've restarted Kodi and the Xbox several times and for some reason just can't get passthrough audio to engage.

I too have the adjust display refresh rate enabled - “On start / stop” to be precise. Pass through works with it enabled. I have always used this setting as it’s best practice to keep the display set to the frequency of the media.

The only downside of using this is the delay with your display switching its refresh rate. But I’m getting off topic. 🙂

My mistake, I didn't think it worked on Xbox.

I'll try to get one, but I'm not sure it will show any "error". Everything works, just without passthrough audio. Not a huge deal for me and everything else is working beautifully so it doesn't really bother me. Just curious, mostly:-)

Okay, debug log now posted here: https://paste.kodi.tv/wozusopinu.kodi

Basically saying the formats aren't supported and there are no passthrough capabilities, which is weird because I'm using connected via HDMI to my TV (and via HDMI ARC to my sound bar) and at the very least AC3 and DTS are supported and pass through properly from the Xbox Blu-ray app.

I was under the impression nothing more advanced than DTS and Dolby could be passed through ARC as the bandwidth isn’t available. DTS MA, Dolby True HD etc require EARC (hdmi 2.1) or a direct connection to a receiver.

Maybe this isn’t relevant to your issue though.

That's correct. But DTS and Dolby should still be passed through, shouldn't they? And they are using the Xbox Blu-ray app.

As I said, not a big deal for me (at least until I get a new TV with an eARC connection, which ain't happening anytime soon) but I'm still curious to know why this is happening.

Here's what the XBOX identifies as supported audio formats on my setup:

First time you've mentioned this. Some TV's won't passthrough DTS (eg LG) so can you run Xbox to the sound bar and then to the TV?

Mine passes DTS through just fine using the Xbox Blu-ray app and using a separate Oppo Blu-ray player. But yeah, it's an "old" TV (ie, not new enough to have eARC) and as I said, it's not a big deal to me. Kodi does everything else I need it to do just fine.

I see a headset mentioned in your screenshot. Do you have a headset currently connected to your Xbox?

Support articles indicate pass through is disabled while headsets are connected.

No, no headset. That's just standard info from the Xbox's settings page. And as I said, passthrough DOES work with my setup on my Xbox using the Xbox's Blu-ray player app. It just doesn't work on the Xbox with Kodi.
